I recently had the opportunity to interview one of my favourite guitarists, John Emsley.
John’s professional career began in The Glitterati, an English rock band signed to Atlantic Records. The band toured extensively, recorded with legendary producer Mike Clink in LA, released two albums and multiple charting singles.
They broke up in 2011, and John turned became a guitarist for hire.
Today, he’s the sole guitar player in an 11-person theatre production of The Blues Brothers.
During the interview, we spoke about:
his choice of gear both now and in a touring rock band
why the Tele is his preferred guitar
how The Glitterati survived with no money before they were signed
his approach to writing songs and lead guitar melodies
imposter syndrome
life on tour
and a lot more.
